Default How does aggro work in this game?

Ya..I come from EQ/WoW/Lineage...so I picked this class to "tank" (W/Mo) but what I dont understand is..how the aggro work here (I can understand having no hate/taunt/threat mechanic here)..but I can never hold aggro on a mob....I pull/run into a grp of 4 mobs but all of a sudden they just go for whatever random class/prof ppl.

how do you tank?

sorry if this has been discussed before...but i hate seeing everyone take dmg.

The AI goes for characters with lower armor (rumors say health as well). Usually as a Warrior in Guild Wars, you try to be a damage dealer, not a tank.

The white circle around you on the minimap, if red dots go in it you have aggro'd.

If you want to be the only one taking damage, then others should be well away from you.

But it shouldn't matter too much, mobs aren't incredibly dangerous except for a few areas.

Also I think the AI is changed to have priority target/professions eg. monks first (not too sure though).

wow then thats pointless playing this class to tank..might as well roll a monk to tank..atleast then ill be the only one taking dmg.

PS: I knew about the aggro circle.

thanks for the quick reply.

It's pretty much useless tanking, as you can roll over mobs already anyway.

i am a firm believer of "time and place for everything"

tank when the mission calls for .
pressure when the mission calls for
aoe damage when the mission calls for
etc etc etc... the list goes on

this is why anet allows us to change our build so quickly and hassle free.
Adapting is the key

how does tanking work?

you should've scrolled down a bit.. I just posted a thread on it:

http://www.guildwarsguru.com/forum/s...php?t=10142611

read that and tell me if you still think tanking works....or if you think its even needed... (besides DOA)....or even if its fun... seems like 'tanks' just want to play against the stupid AI of a computer game rather than actually play the game like a 'warrior' would act....hitting things...

...hopefully GW will be a trend setter in killing 'tanking' in video games.....its stupid sitting there like a punching bag....

Tanking is generally boring unless in FoW or DoA.

There are at least five factors on which the AI decides whom to attack.

- Armor
- Health
- Distance (only matters for melee enemies)
- Equiptment (a player equipped with a staff is more important target than a player with a sword and a shield)
- Action (a player who is attacking or casting is more important target than an idle one)

These all will be compared to other available targets, such as your teammates, pets, minions and so on.

While tanking is quite useless, taking an advantage of those factors can be used to get easy (Legendary) Survivor.
